He will face the Marlins in Miami on March 31. It’s the first opening-day assignment for the 32-year-old De La Rosa, who went a career-best 16-6 with a 3.49 ERA last season.
The Rockies made the announcement Wednesday. The move was expected with left-hander Jhoulys Chacin sidelined with a sore throwing shoulder and not expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.
De La Rosa allowed two hits in three scoreless innings in his last spring training start on Tuesday.
His 55 wins with Colorado are the fifth-most in franchise history.
De La Rosa is entering the final year of a four-year contract.

Janet Delana of Wellington appeared at a news conference Wednesday with attorneys for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence to announce the suit filed that morning in Lafayette County Circuit Court.
The lawsuit alleges Colby Sue Weathers was schizophrenic and had a history of serious mental illness when she went into Odessa Gun & Pawn in Odessa, 40 miles east of Kansas City, and purchased a gun June 27, 2012. Just over an hour later she is accused of shooting her father in the back of the head.
A manager at the pawn shop had not seen the lawsuit and declined to comment.

Gortat — in a Q&A interview with Truth About It’s Kyle Weidie on Monday — said if he had it his way, he would “loosen up a little bit” on the rules about fines administered by the league for fighting.
“That if there are two guys and they have a problem,” Gortat explained. “If they could just separate everybody. And these two people that have problem, if they could fight …”
“Quick, 15-20 seconds, throw few punches, then referees jump in and break this thing up,” he went on to explain.
Gortat said it would have…
