LA JOYA, Texas (AP) — Officials say troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety seized more than 500 pounds of marijuana during two separate traffic stops.
The department said in a news release the largest of the seizures occurred before noon Saturday when troopers stopped an 18-year-old man along U.S. 83. A trooper found 22 bundles of marijuana weighing 273 pounds in his vehicle.
The other seizure occurred about 9 a.m. Saturday when a trooper pulled over a 28-year-old man who was driving eastbound on U.S. 83 in La Joya. A trooper found 21 bundles of marijuana weighing 268 pounds.
Both men were arrested on marijuana possession charges and booked at the Hidalgo County Jail.
The department says it’s continuing to investigate both cases.
