Louisville’s Montrezl Harrell gets technical for throwing ball off opponent’s face

For The Win

No. 12 Louisville got off to a rough start in the first half at home against Miami, and Cardinals star Montrezl Harrell picked up a controversial technical foul after throwing the ball off an opponent’s face. Harrell jumped to grab an offensive rebound just a few feet from the baseline, and as he was coming down from his jump, Harrell threw the ball with two hands off the face of Miami’s Tonye Jekiri. Referees conferenced to decide whether or not the toss was a flagrat foul, but hit Harrell with a technical.

Harrell wasn’t going to land out of bounds, so there was no need to throw the ball, but he may have seen Jekiri over the line and tried to give the Cardinals an inbounds play by forcing the ball out.
