The NBC feed of Idina Menzel’s national anthem was evidently played inside University of Phoenix Stadium, which meant fans in attendance were seeing NBC’s frequent reaction shots of players and coaches. And much like those awkward “In Memoriam” segments during awards shows, there was inappropriate clapping and cheering (Rob Gronkowski earned cheers) during a solemn moment. But unlike The Oscars or Grammys, this montage included some booing.
When Bill Belichick was shown on the video board at the stadium, he was roundly booed by the pro-Seahawks crowd in attendance.
That’s one way to deflate a sense of patriotism. No matter how much you don’t like someone, you don’t boo during the anthem. That’s a disgrace, 12th man.
