Denver Broncos Hire Wade Phillips As Defensive Coordinator

CBS Denver

DENVER (CBS4)– The Broncos are bringing another familiar name back to Denver, CBS4’s Vic Lombardi has confirmed that the Broncos will hire Wade Phillips to be the team’s next defensive coordinator.

Phillips had the same job in Denver from 1989-1992, before becoming head coach from 1993-1994. Since then he has been a head coach in Buffalo and Dallas, with other coaching stops in Atlanta, San Diego and Houston (where he was an assistant to Gary Kubiak).

The Broncos had hoped to hire Cincinnati Bengals secondary coach Vance Joseph, but the Bengals refused to let him out of his contract.

Phillips was 16-16 in his two years as Broncos head coach. He did not coach in 2014.
