LANSDOWNE, Md. (WJZ) — Heavy hearts after a 13-year-old boy rescued from a frozen pond in Baltimore County has died. Police say Kyron Aikens was under water for an hour before divers could find him.
Rick Ritter spoke with the family of the teen and has more on exactly what happened.
Family members say the group of boys were simply “being boys.” They wanted to pretend to ice skate on the pond when they fell in—leaving Kyron submerged under water. Family members say he was an outgoing bundle of joy who had a bright future.
“He was just so special; he would do anything for you,” said his grandmother, Veronica Aikens.
Words turned to tears as the family of 13-year-old Kyron Aikens described a young wrestler with a glowing smile.

“Everybody loved him,” Aikens said.
Gone before they ever had a chance to say goodbye.
