Report: Falcons Hire K. Shanahan To Run Offense

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly taking the first steps toward building their new coaching staff, hiring Kyle Shanahan as their new Offensive Coordinator.

According to media reports, Shanahan and Seattle Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn are expected to be a package deal, with Quinn set to become the Falcons’ next head coach. Quinn couldn’t officially sign with Atlanta until after Super Bowl XLIX, after his Seahawks came from behind Sunday to beat Green Bay 28-22 in the NFC Championship Game.

Shanahan, the son of longtime NFL coach Mike Shanahan, first became an NFL assistant in 2004 with Tampa Bay. He’s since directed the offenses of the Texans, Redskins and Browns. Shanahan’s lone season in Cleveland saw the Browns finish 23rd in total offense, as he dealt with off-the-field distractions involving rookie QB Johnny Manziel and suspended WR Josh Gordon.
