PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil (CBSNewYork/AP) — Substitute Andre Schuerrle and Mesut Ozil scored in extra time Monday to lead Germany over an aggressive Algeria 2-1 and into the World Cup quarterfinals.
Thomas Mueller provided a cross from the left flank that was slightly behind Schuerrle. The Germany forward dragged his left leg and backheeled the ball into the far corner in the 92nd minute, leaving goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi with no chance.
Ozil added the second in the 120th, and substitute Abdelmoumene Djabou pulled one back in injury time for Algeria.
Three-time champion Germany, which has now advanced past the second round at nine consecutive World Cups, will next face 1998 winner France on Friday at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
With the temperature a chilly 14 degrees Celsius (57 degrees Fahrenheit) and a light rain falling at times, the pace was high at the Estadio Beira-Rio but the goals…

Chris Brown was locked up for A WHILE, so we can’t blame him for having fun at the BET Awards this past weekend, but this video shows that he did a little too much! He had to get carried out of a BET Awards after party and it was caught on tape…
TMZ.com posted the video and say:
“Brown was leaving Playhouse in the wee hours of Monday morning, but not under his own power. Brown’s arms were squarely wrapped around the shoulders of two guys … while a few other people cleared the way.”

CBS DETROIT – If the Detroit Pistons hit a home run in free agency, it will not be because they swung for the fences, Pistons team president and head coach Stan Van Gundy said last Tuesday — a week before free agency began.
The Pistons have about $13.5 million in cap space, the coach said, but the team does not plan to spend it all in one place.
“We don’t have max money,” Van Gundy said. “We have too many needs to go out, even at $13.5 million, with what’s on the list. We think spending that kind of money on one guy and leaving all the other things for minimum guys, based on who’s on the list, we think that would be a mistake, and that the better approach for us is taking three or four spots we want to fill, trying to spread the money around, certainly…

UPLAND (CBSLA.com) — The 64-year-old live-in nanny who has come under national fire for refusing to leave an Upland family’s home is speaking out for the first time.
Ralph and Marcel Bracamonte hired Diane Stretton via Craigslist, offering her room and board for taking care of their three children.
After the first few months, the Bracamontes said Stretton stopped working and refused to leave her room.
The family said they fired Stretton on June 6, but she told them she wasn’t going to budge.
Stretton told KNX 1070’s Charles Feldman, however, that she was never terminated by the couple.

The Wizards’ Marcin Gortat is having the best NBA offseason ever.
Just a week after he posted an Instagram photo of himself walking a pig on a leash, Gortat appeared in photos showing him and teammate Chris Singleton riding to a basketball camp atop an armored vehicle in Poland. Gortat is standing at the gun turret.
Never change, Gortat.
