RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Officials in Riverside say a 22-year-old male driving under the influence Friday morning, caused a collision that fatally injured a man who was standing on the side of a road.
The accident occurred just after 11:05 a.m., said authorities.
CHP said Gregory Ethan Gurney of Corona was driving a green Hyundai Santa Fe north on SR-71 when he drifted into the right shoulder where a black 1999 Jeep Wrangle pulling a trailer had been stopped.
The 26-year-old male driver was standing outside his Jeep when the Hyundai plowed into the Wrangler.
The force of the crash caused the unidentified male to tumble down an embankment and caused the Hyundai to overturn.
Gurney sustained moderate injuries, according to officials.
The Jeep driver was taken to Corona Regional Medical Center where he was later declared dead.
